Ocular Inspection

A couple of weekends ago Ate Dinky and I, plus the family in tow had an ocular inspection of our party venue at Fat Burger. We also had a “meeting” of sorts to discus how we could decorate the place to make it the circus theme that we/I wanted. I’m happy to report that she approved of the place and that the play area, which was my main attraction was not a very hard sell. We did agree that we/I don’t need to hire any more entertainers as the play area will be more than enough to keep the kids busy. This made me happy because it meant that I had more budget on my DIY projects.

With us going home to the Philippines for Spring Break, I have a long list of “things to buy from Divisoria“. Divisoria is where we Filipinos run to so we can buy the cheapest of everything you can ever imagine. If you can buy it at the mall chances are you can find it in Divisoria (Divi as we like to call it) 1/2 price with room to haggle pa!

things to buy

I’m very excited for this party because somebody is as excited as me for it meanwhile the celebrant is nonchalant about everything. This feeling is very dangerous though because I’m starting to plan Adrian’s next party in my head too! (have to hide this post from the hubby! hehe)

Ordinary days

Dearest Lord,

Please give me more perfectly ordinary days with my boys.

a special milestone

One of the benefits of being a SAHM is that I get to spend every moment of my life with my kids.  That for every special milestone in their sweet little lives I was/am there to witness it and share it with them.

Today was no different, my Aden said his first words. He’s been playing with his BAAAs and DAAAs all week and this morning while trying to put him down for his morning nap Arnie was teaching him “DAD-DY” and he repeated it like he was a pro at speaking. It was the sweetest sound I’ve ever heard but I think more than hearing Aden speak what’s more special to me was Arnie’s reaction. It was indescribable and priceless, I hope I never get Alzheimer’s because I never want to erase it from my memory. I think because he doesn’t spend that much time with them sharing that moment with Aden made it all the more special.

The Pink Pepper experience

Pink Pepper is a photo studio at Dubai Mall that I absolutely admire. Their services aren’t cheap either but I guess some people would pay big money to have great photos of your children. I would too, if I had the money to spare. So imagine my delight when they gave out vouchers in our Boogie Babies class at Favourite Things for a free photo shoot session in honor of mother’s day (21 March UAE). Of course being the sucker for free stuff, I immediately booked a session for my two sons after getting the vouchers.

I was told that it was only going to be a 10 minute photo shoot, believe me 10 mins was plenty enough for my boys, my little one was getting anxious with strangers calling his attention and taking pictures of him and my older son, Adrian was absolutely loving the attention but was getting a bit rowdy at the studio that I just wanted to take him out of there before we break anything valuable in there. At the end I think we got one nice one of the two of them. They will call back after a week to show me the photos…I can’t wait.

Thank you Pink Pepper Photography for this experience you truly made my Mother’s day a special one.

A day at the beach

Part of our busy weekend was a morning at the beach. It’s been quite awhile since we spent a day at the beach so all my beach gear was nowhere to be found. By the time we left the house I have turned it upside down looking for the baby swimming tube, that in the end we weren’t able to use.

Aden’s first beach getaway

I was very excited to take my youngest Aden since this was his first time. He loved playing on the sand and was even attempting to taste it. The water was too cold so there was no swimming for him or any of us for that matter. Adrian frolicked by the shore and was very happy playing with his toy truck in the sand.

Living in Dubai has its perks, having easy access to the beach and all year round of sunny weather  is one of those perks.

Bailey’s Irish Cream Cupcakes

Made these babies over the weekend for an adult dinner we went to. Of course my kids tagged along but with kuya not so crazy with mommy’s chocolate cupcakes anyway I was sure he wasn’t gonna want to taste this one. I was delighted when the cupcakes turned out moist (that’s how i like my cupcakes). The big disappointment was I bought the wrong whipped cream, the recipe called for heavy whipping cream, the closest I could find was thick whipped cream I thought it was the same but the frosting turned out to me runny…so next time I make this, I will make sure I get the correct ingredients. I think the group liked it or they may be just good actors hihi

Here is the recipe I borrowed from food.com

Servings: 12
Units: US | Metric

  1. 2 cups flour
  2. 1 3/4 cups sugar
  3. 3/4 cup cocoa
  4. 1/2 teaspoon salt
  5. 1 tablespoon baking soda
  6. 1 egg
  7. 2/3 cup oil
  8. 3/4 cup buttermilk
  9. 1/4 cup bailey irish cream
  10. 1 cup strong black coffee

  1. 2 cups heavy whipping cream
  2. 1/4-1/2 cup powdered sugar
  3. 1/4 cup bailey irish cream (or more to taste – I tend to use 1/8 cup!!)

  1. Cake: Sift dry ingredients together.
  2. Beat egg, oil, buttermilk, liqueur, coffee together.
  3. Add to the dry ingredients; beat together for about 3 minutes.
  4. Pour into greased/floured 10″ springform pan or 9×13 pan.
  5. Bake at 350 for 35 to 40 minutues for the springform or 25 to 30 minutes for the 9×13- or until done.
  6. Cool.
  7. Frosting: beat ingredients together until stiff.
  8. Turn cake out onto a plate and frost with whipped cream mixture.
  9. Sprinkle with chocolate curls.

The recipe was for cake but I decided to make cupcakes so that it would be easy for them to eat it but with the runny frosting it got a little messy. I forgot to take photos of my products – believe me I’m kicking myself for not getting any.

We welcomed the weekend to a sumptuous feast to celebrate my little one for being 9 months old. We had dinner at The Noodle House in Madinat Jumeirah, the food was great, as always and most importantly FREE you heard me right FREE.
