I have a new addiction and I’m not afraid to share it.
I AM OBSESSING OVER YAMANOTE: Atelier. No it’s not the latest trend or handbag from Japan, it’s actually a bakery shop found at Al Wasl Square. Were you really surprised that it’s another food post? Of course it’s about food! You know you are reading my blog right??
I can’t begin to describe how good their breads are 😍 I don’t even know how… all I can say is that it’s light, soft, airy, YUMMY!!!! It’s nothing like I’ve ever tasted ever before!!! I’ve never baked bread before and now that I’ve discovered YAMANOTE I NEVER will!! They are simply the best Ahhhhhh I’m craving one just thinking about it now!
There are about 5 tables at the shop and they usually are full with loyal patrons, some even Japanese so what does that say? Isn’t it a good sign when a Japanese Bakery shop is actually full of Japanese people??? I, sadly have not had the opportunity to sit down since they are always full plus I like to go before I do the afternoon pick up so I can eat it in the car while I wait for the guards to open the school gates. Enough of me trying to tell you how good this place is and just let the pictures speak for itself.
*All pictures are grabbed from their website. Since the place is too small I feel weird taking pictures of the place – sorry!
With the temperatures slowly dropping and the sun shinning all day how can one not do anything outdoors. Of course first on our list was to spend some time at the beach. PSYCHED!!! Of course not! First on our list was to #findsalt and try their most talked about burgers! The beach was an after thought.
SALT, is a burger joint that serves their food out of a food truck and since they move a lot there’s a trending #findsalt on instagram and once found #foundsalt was the cool thing to do. I think the excitement of finding them and being in on the loop was part of the novelty for me. The Angus burgers were good but I liked the buns the most.
Lately they seemed to be rooted at Kite beach along Jumeirah Beach Road, which is actually perfect for me because I pass by them everyday on my school runs. Only bummer is they don’t serve anything but burgers, drinks and fries (but on the day that I was there they didn’t have any fries😩)and my boys DON’T eat burgers – Please don’t ask me how a couple who dedicated their lives in finding the “best” burger in Dubai can have two sons who DON’T EAT BURGERS.
Anyway, if you find yourself in the area drop by and you’ll be amazed at the diversity of people eating there. Only in Dubai can you find European or American women with their supermodel bodies wearing bikinis all day dine side by side with Emarati women wearing their abayas all in black and covered from head to toe and then there’s me, the disgruntled mom running around after her boys👬.
I guess you can say that’s how good their burgers are that people from all walks of life flock to wherever they are, so what are you doing sitting there…head on to Kite Beach and maybe I’ll see you there! hehe
I’ve been very very lazy (to say the least) about my blog lately. I actually have no excuse just plain L-A-Z-Y. But it doesn’t necessarily mean I have nothing to share (or say) because if you see my draft folder it’s full of posts I haven’t brought myself into editing. Yes friends even if my blog seems like I just type and type and say anything that comes out of my head it does go through days of editing (in this case months) 😬.
But nothing excites me more than a new project and the prospect to meet new friends online. My friend and forever grade school and high school seat mate (when we were arranged alphabetically) mymommyology tapped me on the shoulder to invite me to join #trailingspousesstories I immediately jumped into the opportunity. This is the reason we blog right? To share stories and meet people going through the same thing, to know that we are not alone.
To “pay it forward” (as they say) I would like to extend the invitation to friends who are co-trailing spouses who want to share their stories online. If you don’t have a blog, the mechanics did say that you can “guest post” on any one of the bloggers (ahem!). Or this may be the perfect opportunity for you to start blogging too!
More details on this are found here: http://talaocampo.com/trailingspousestories-blog-crawl/. If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact any one of the organisers: Tala at mailto:firstname.lastname@example.org or Didi at mailto:email@example.com (http://www.dfordelicious.com/) or ME!!!
Have a nice day and hang in there girlies! I see the weekend coming soon!!! Not that we get a day off or anything😜
I’ve done the school run for over a month now and although I really do enjoy the driving part, for some reason I’m super stressed out in the morning. Maybe it’s because I can’t wait to drop of my kid to school – TO LEARN!!! (you thought I was gonna say “so I can be alone” noh?😜 hehe). I know I’ve done the school run for 2+ years now so I should be used to it by now but for some reason since Adrian has moved to what we call a “big school” I feel like it’s been more challenging.
For starters Aden has been more clingy, don’t ask me how that’s possible he just is. So imagine me preparing breakfast and school snacks with a (sleeping) two-year old over my shoulder. Forget about drinking coffee because I’m too scared it will spill and burn my two-year old; NO coffee means 😡 mommy.
This was really a big frustration for me because I work faster without the distraction and since I’m in a tight schedule 😩 all I can do is 😭. But because I have no choice I have to perceiver. First, I’ve adjusted my mind-set and lowered my expectations on what I can prepare my boys for breakfast. Sorry boys no chocolate chip pancakes or french toast from mommy’s kitchen anytime soon.
For school snacks and lunch the school promotes healthy eating and I’m happy Adrian welcomes this concept with open arms so it’s cucumber, grapes, strawberries, apples, yogurt, etc which are easy to prepare. As for lunch he usually gets whatever we had the night before so that part takes care of itself .
The dressing up part and grooming is relatively easy since Adrian is older and can dress himself – sometimes!
Being obsessive compulsive about always being on time I rally the troops to leave the house 45 mins before the first bell. You see the drive to school is 30 mins so I give 15 mins allowance for traffic, looking for parking, boys fighting at the back so much that I have to stop the car to intervene, and my favourite distraction from driving is Aden crawling out of his car seat to sit on my lap!!!! (while DRIVING!!!!) OMG this was so dangerous in so many levels I’m happy we are over this phase. I’ve read and by experience I can share that the best solution for this is to stop the car and put him back in his place and eventually they’ll get it – for Aden it took him about a week and about a hundred stop overs ( I exaggerate for drama purposes) but I’m so happy he’s behaved now. Phew! Crisis averted. Thank God!
Ok so I know now you think I’m crazy because I’m wasting my time sitting in the car waiting for about 15-20 mins for them to open the school gates. Trust me I was thinking the same thing during the first couple of weeks. But I’m proud to say I’ve devised my own ways to make use of our morning school parking lot sessions. For starters, I review Adrian on his spelling words, multiplication table or any homework he may have for that particular day. Doesn’t always work, I don’t know if it’s because he knows them well already or my constant nagging simply annoys my 5-year-old. I’ll let you be the judge on this one. For Aden I pack his breakfast and feed him in the car while we wait. Because it’s too early for him to eat with Adrian, he’s usually hungry aka cranky by the time we get to school, so I started packing him his breakfast. Saved me a whole too since I don’t have to pass by the bakery or a certain coffee shop with a drive thru window along Jumeira Beach Road 😜😜 to get him a croissant and a drink everyday. I know you think a croissant and a drink doesn’t cost much but you do know it’s not just a croissant and juice right? 😜 hint: ☕️+🍰 for mommy too = $$$.
The drive home is usually relaxing *depends on the little monster at the back* but after the morning ordeal everything else (cleaning, laundry, cooking etc) is dare I say icing? haha
I found this video on YouTube and I thought it was funny and on point of what we moms go through every weekday morning. Enjoy!
This is another school run song, which I enjoy listening to every morning.
